Our first day in Kyoto included arriving at the massive Kyoto station and visiting 3 temples at the north
end of town. It is impossible to visit Kyoto and not take pictures. People say that you could
Live in Kyoto for 5 years and not see the vast amount of Temples, Palaces, and Castles.
The capital of Japan for over 1000 years (following the Nara period) Kyoto should
be the number one destination for any traveler wishing to see the 'old culture of Japan.'

The open-air Kyoto station has a roof that provides shelter as well as a inspiring view.
 
Travelers can take an escalator or walk up the stations 11 floors of stairs. Following this photo we chose the escalators.
