Our third day in Kyoto - more walking more temples, more shrines and a geisha sighting.
It is impossible to visit Kyoto and not take pictures. People say that you could
Live in Kyoto for 5 years and not see the vast amount of Temples, Palaces, and Castles.
The capital of Japan for over 1000 years (following the Nara period) Kyoto should
be the number one destination for any traveler wishing to see the 'old culture of Japan.'

Geishas cross the street amidst the hustle and bustle of the Gion distric of Kyoto.
 
A typical Geisha tea house in Gion. Geishas live and preform in these small two or three level houses.
 
We were lucky enough to take this picture of a Giesha emerging from her tea house.
 
 
 
A Japanese cemetery.
 
In Japanese cemeteries memorials are placed each year for the deceaced person. They are often in the from of long cedar sticks as seen in the background.
 
With space at a premium, Japanese graves take up only a few square feet each and can house the creamated remains of several family members.
 
The steps at Chionin, Tom Cruise fans may remember this site's apperance in one of the scenes of 'The Last Samurai.'
 
The gate to the Heian Shrine dominates the traffic.
