Today we woke up still in the hell that was the La Carmela Hotel. This morning we tried to keep our good faces on because our dear friend Andrea Shantz was celebrating her 27th birthday. After a little birthday celebration over whatever mystery meat they were serving for breakfast, we swapped horror stories from our rooms and decided on a new plan of action - we agreed that we hated our current situation and we needed to explore alternate possibilities.
I could remember a couple other hotels that sparked my interest when we were reserving our rooms in Boracay so we decided to visit those places directly and see what could be done. Our first and only stop was the Paradise Bay Resort Hotel. Immediately upon our arrival at Paradise Bay, we were greeted by the manager of the hotel a very welcoming German man named Mathias. He promptly showed us a few rooms that they had available and we were struck right away by the cleanliness, spaciousness and the seclusion of this hotel. Our balcony no longer would look out on to the ghettos or concrete walls but out into the blue waters of the Pacific. There were palm trees and lounge chairs galore, not to mention a pool – sans kids - with a swim-up bar. Right away we were sold, we hustled back to La Carmela, checked out, stuffed our belongings into our bags and assumed our rightful place in Paradise.
After an afternoon switching between the pool and the lounge chairs we quickly felt the relaxation that we were seeking when we booked this vacation. In the evening, over a few bottles of wine, we toasted Ange’s 27th year and our excellent find at Paradise Bay. I’m sure in the following 6 days here we will take some trips back to the main beach but it is really nice to have a home base that is relaxed and comfortable without the hustle & bustle and deplorable conditions that drove us away from our previous hotel.
Oh yeah and the best part – Paradise Bay was only $50 a night - $15 cheaper than our first hotel. Finally a happy ending in Paradise!!! Mabuhay! |
