around town in Anyang

It's been a while since our last blog.

Things have been going well here in Korea, slowly but surely we are figuring out the nuances of Korean life. Each day, it seems, we realize something new, either something that we take for granted in Canada, or something that we don't have and the Koreans seem to have perfected - stay tuned for a complete list of these in the days to come.

The view from our apartment window, a night time we can see 3 illuminated crosses on the tops of churches in the distance.

One of our favorite haunts thus far has definitely been Anyang Central park. The park is huge, with basketball, badminton and tennis courts, fountains, and a large amount of open space. During the school's intensive program we would often go to the park in the evenings, but now that we have switched back to the 3pm-10:30pm schedule, we try to head over for lunch a couple days each week.

Yesterday we were sitting on one of the benches and there were two guys on a bench about 20' away. A scooter drove up to their bench, and the guy on the scooter got off, went to his rear carrier and took out a whole lunch for them, I think we will definitely try to order lunch in the park sometime!

We also find that we have been heading into Seoul a lot. To get to Seoul, we need to take a 40 minute subway ride from Beomgye Station.

Beomgye, a pedestrian boulevard, is a great spot for bars, restaurants, stores: a good night out. It is always fun walking down the long stretch of sights and smells on the way to the subway.
